Why choose Trinity Regional for Middle School?

Recognizing that the needs of students change at various age levels, the Middle School concept is used in grades six through eight. The team of faculty on the middle school level specialize in a particular subject area: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students receive instruction in the major subject areas in a departmental fashion.
Advanced classes are offered to Eighth Grade students. All students take high school regents Living Environment Science and high school regents integrated Algebra.
Trinity Regional School along with the Diocese of Rockville Centre follows New York State Next Generation Learning Standards.
Our curriculum is enhanced by classes in computers, foreign language, art, music, library studies, science lab, and various technologies. Students attend these classes each week and engage in interdisciplinary activities which correlate with and enhance classroom instruction in the major subjects.
Our goal is to graduate faith filled, compassionate young men and women who are critical, reflective thinkers who possess a global awareness and acknowledge the importance of cultural diversity.

6th grade

Sixth Grade Mathematics focuses on introducing and developing algebra skills and ratios and proportions. The students build upon previous knowledge and grow in their algebraic understanding to better describe algebraic relationships. The curriculum prepares students for the NYS Mathematics Exam in the spring.

Trinity Regional’s Middle School Science curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York learning performance standards which encompasses three core content areas: life science, physical science, and Earth and space sciences. In sixth grade, our focus is on Earth and Space Science. Our studies promote phenomena-based learning as we explore topics including Earth’s Systems (air, energy, and water), the Dynamic Earth, and the Geological History of our Earth. In addition, we study Earth’s natural resources and conclude with Life Science topics that explore the human impact on Earth’s systems and ecosystem dynamics.

Students take the final step across the bridge from learning to read to reading to learn. Students will read many different genres. Comprehension skills such as cause and effect, inferencing, chronological order, and author’s purpose are reviewed through a variety of literary and informational texts. Reading strategies are practiced, such as monitoring, visualizing, connecting, and predicting. New concepts such as conflict, plot diagrams, and figurative language are introduced. Students generate numerous pieces of writing, including narratives, arguments, and expository responses to texts. There is an emphasis on vocabulary acquisition, spelling, and grammar. Students are also well-prepared for the New York State English Language Arts Assessment.

Students will study World History. Ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Greece, Egypt, Rome, and China will be explored. Students will also study the Renaissance and European Industrial Revolution.

7th grade

Seventh Grade mathematics focuses on building upon the algebraic concepts learned in Sixth Grade. Students are accelerated throughout the year in preparation for Regents Algebra 1 in Eighth Grade. In addition to the algebra topics, the curriculum focuses on geometry and probability and statistics.

Trinity Regional’s Middle School Science curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York learning performance standards which encompasses three core content areas: life science, physical science, and Earth and space sciences. In seventh grade, our focus is on Physical Science with a strong emphasis on Chemistry. Utilizing the scientific method and lab studies in addition to class discussions we explore topics including the nature of science, the history of Chemistry, Elements, Atomic structures and properties of matter, Periodic Table, Chemical Bonds, Chemical Reactions, Substances, and Mixture. We will also explore Energy and Wave Properties- important topics in our 21st century technological world.

Students will focus on American History, starting with the arrival of early people moving into the Americas. Exploration, colonization, the American Revolution, and the Civil War are some of the topics that will be covered.

8th grade

All Eighth Grade students take Regents level Algebra 1. This course culminates in a Regents examination in June. Algebra 1 is critical element in secondary mathematics education. Topics introduced in Algebra 1 provides the foundation students require for future success in high school mathematics, critical thinking, and problem solving. The primary goal in Algebra 1 is to help students transfer their concrete mathematical knowledge to more abstract algebraic generalizations. Algebra 1 topics focus on linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and also introduce students to high school level statistics.

The living environment is a New York state regents course. The eighth grade students will prepare to take the regents in June as they study topics such as ecology, evolution, cell structure, biochemistry and the human body.

American History continues in Eighth Grade, where students will examine Reconstruction, Westward Expansion, The Progressive Era, Imperialism and World War I, The Great Depression, World War II, and Postwar America.

We use a program called iReady!
i‑Ready is a comprehensive assessment and instruction program that empowers educators with the resources they need to help all students succeed. By connecting Diagnostic data and Personalized Instruction, i‑Ready reduces complexity, saves educators time, and makes differentiated instruction achievable in every classroom. Students will complete an iReady diagnostic three times in a school year. In addition, students will complete iReady assignments in class and at home.

Special Education services in conjunction with the local public school district include speech, resource room, OT, PT, and a school psychologist.

Students in grades four and six will take the NYS ELA and math exams. In grade five students will take the NYS science exam.

We have hot lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Tuesday is chicken nuggets, Wednesday is grilled cheese or bagel w/butter or cream cheese, and Thursday is pizza. All other days students must bring lunch.
